How it works
Ebook Reader in three steps
- Open your bookChoose a PDF or EPUB file, or drop it on the box. It opens at once, on any computer or phone, with nothing to install.
- Highlight and add notesSelect text and pick one of five colours. Click Add note to write in the margin; an arrow joins the note to the text, and you can drag the note up, down or to the other side of the page.
- Read in focus mode and savePress Focus for a full-screen page with nothing else on it. When you are done, download your notes as Word or text, or the PDF with your highlights and margin notes in it.

Which books can I open?
PDF files and EPUB ebooks without copy protection. Books bought in stores such as Kindle or Apple Books are usually locked (DRM) and can only be read in their own apps.
Where are my highlights and notes saved?
In your browser on this device. Open the same file again in the same browser and they come back. To move them to another computer, use Download, then Back up highlights, and Restore from a backup there.
Can I download the PDF with my highlights?
Yes. Download, then PDF with highlights and notes. The highlights are real PDF highlights that other PDF apps show and can edit, and each note is printed in a margin beside its page with an arrow to the text.
Can it read the book aloud?
Yes. Press the headphones button and it reads from where you are, marking each sentence as it goes. Pause any time, skip paragraphs, change the voice and speed, or point at any paragraph and press play to start there. It uses the voices of your device, so nothing is uploaded.
Can I export my notes to Word?
Yes. Download your notes as a Word document, Markdown or plain text: every highlight and note, page by page, ready for an essay, a review or revision.
Does focus mode turn off notifications?
It hides everything on this page and fills the screen. A website cannot silence other apps, so the reader shows you how to turn on Do not disturb on your computer or phone for a quiet read.
Can I highlight a scanned PDF?
Yes, with the area tool: drag a box over any part of the page. To select words on a scan, make it searchable first with OCR PDF.
